paediatric incontinence & constipation

Bed wetting, daytime 'accidents' and constipation are common afflictions of our children and are well managed by our expert continence physiotherapist.

In young children the bladder & bowel empty involuntarily. As they grow older, between 2-5 yrs they begin to learn to control it voluntarily. Children should be able to sleep at night without a nappy by 6 yrs old, either sleeping through or waking up and taking themselves to the toilet.

When children are constipated, this commonly puts pressure on their bladder (because of their bladder size and the close proximity of the bladder), often resulting in problems with their water works as well. It is very important for children who are regulated constipated to be seen and the problem addressed by our continence physiotherapist.
