Constipation typically results in straining, which affects your pelvic floor - this is something to investigate and improve!
There are a number of reasons why you may be constipated or straining. These include:
- history of straining causing scarring
- structures 'in the way' e.g. pelvic organ prolapse
- gut disorders
- congenital abnormalities
- posture & technique on the toilet
- and many more - so be sure to see our Physiotherapist to determine what will help you.
When children are constipated, this commonly puts pressure on their bladder (because of their bladder size and the close proximity of the bladder), often resulting in problems with their water works as well. It is very important for children who are regulated constipated to be seen and the problem addressed by our continence physiotherapist.
